Your Learning Style

I took this learning style self-evaluation quiz and figure out that I am a visual learn and a bit of a auditory leaner. I haven't tried to change my study habits since high school, when I was in high school I really didn't study much usually a day before. I always knew it wasn't such a great way to study for any test, and I still do it in college. Maybe that is why I am not doing so great in college need to change my study habits. Nothing has really worked for me it's more of what hasn't worked for me. The transition from high school to college is a big change especially since I am the first one in my family to go to college. I don't have any role models for college advice. I believe what I need to change is how I manage my time because I always end up procrastinating in all my classes. I know I am always wasting time either watching T.V., on the computer, hanging out with friends, and playing video games. Sometimes there is time for fun, but there is also time to be serious and do school work. I should start doing homework isolated by myself in the library more often, instead of doing it in my room with a lot of distractions. My learning style would be a visual learner and being in a place where it is quite.

Non-Muse Event

The None-Muse event I went to was actually in the University of Davis about a Fraternity and Sorority stepping and strolling competition. The potential Fraternity I might join was competing which is Sigma Lambda Beta. One of the members Joshua Brennan a sophomore in San Jose State University was the one who invited me and took me. It was a great experience meeting the Sigma Lambda Beta members form UCD. What sucks was that Joshua and I got there late and just missed when Sigma Lambda Beta where stepping and strolling.

Study Tip #2

A great study tip that I personal do is do a lot of practice problem specifically for a math or science class. I would always do practice problems for my math classes and science class. This will make me receive good grades; also see in which area I need more practice on. Remember practice makes perfect every time I do practice problem the subject I am learning is easier to understand.

Non-muse Event #2

Talking about Sex

I believe the pressures of college freshmen are divided between genders because there are different standards. The male usually has peer pressure from other males of how sexually active one is. Most college men are sexually active and others aren't who are mad fun of and pressured to do so. For females the sexual pressures would be having sex when she is not comfortable. The rules of dating are pretty general, for example; good communication, trust, patience, passion, etc. I think people shouldn't Google the other person when going on a date with them either before the date or after. The advice for the younger kids is to remember the purpose of coming to college to graduate with a degree.

Talking about Drugs

The "drug of choice" for freshmen definitely has to be marijuana and alcohol. Based on observation and experience honestly out of all the college parties I have been to there is always marijuana and alcohol. The parties I have been to are not all in San Jose this also includes University of Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, University of Davis, and San Francisco University. My friends and I all drink and they smoke, but I chose not to smoke based on personal issues. For me there isn't really any temptations because I never thought about smoking marijuana but, I do drink alcohol to a certain extent.

Music Memories

The two people I interviewed for this assignment were my parents Jose and Maria. My father's taste of music during his teenage years was specifically rock ranging from Spanish rock, metal, classic rock, psychedelic, glam metal, and pop rock. In the other hand, my mother will listen to Spanish music, for example; cumbias, banda, pop rock, and salsa. My mother only went to a show of a group that wasn't famous at the time, but my dad did go to only two concerts. The name of the group that my mom saw is called Banda de Recordo. The show was for college students specifically veterinarians who where dancing and drinking. The concerts my father went to where from Spanish music groups such as El Tre and Miguel Rios and one techno composer Poly March. Jose's experience with the El Tre concert was "amazing" says my dad; he remembers traveling a long distance in order to get to the location of the concert. My dad would like listening to Tre because of the lyrical content. He told me that most of Tre's song where about the corruption of the government. I agree because I also like rebellious music during my teenage years of my life. There is also another concert my dad went to the artist was Miguel Rios. The location where the concert took place was called El Toreo de Cuatro Caminos which was a baseball stadium. He remembers that a lot of people started to push through the main gate because of anticipation and it caused the police to take people to jail. This included my dad and his friends so he technically did really go to the concert. All of his money for the concert ticket was to get him out of jail. The last concert he ever went to was a techno show. The dj's name was Poly March who played at El Socalo a lot of people were excited dancing. There were also go-go dancers in exotic costumes dancing to the beat of the music. My father remembers before the show was over Poly March would turn off all the lights and started playing in the dark. My father's interest in music hasn't change throughout his life, but my mother just included to her taste. Mainly due to immigrating to the U.S., for example; she has started to listen to hip/hop and American pop. My father's favorite bands from then and now are The Doors, Rolling Stones, INXS, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, and Poly March. My mother is Banda de Recordo, Shakira, Bukis, Maricella, Mana, Selena, Lady Gaga, and Pink. I defiantly have a similar taste of music as my parents specially my father. I also have other family relatives influence my choice of music. I still listen to old groups my father would listen as a teenager, for example; the singer Billy Idol, The Doors, Led Zepplin, Van Halen, etc. Recentally I have only been to one concert which was technically a metal feast.

The Doors at the Whisky in 1966

The year of 1966 was a horrible year Vietnam War was occurring and people where being drafted to the war. The revolt of peace over war started riots on Los Angeles Sunset Boulevard. There was this group named The Doors formed by two UCLA Film students Jim Morrison a poet and Ray Manzarek an organ player. The Doors will play at a gig called the London Fog and was across the famous Whisky a Go-Go, and they would get laugh at when they told groups in Whisky that they are the band across the street. Finally the booker of the club Ronnie Harran was impressed with Jim's stage persona. The Doors where offered a house-band spot in the Whisky a famous spot in Sunset where famous bands play. The Doors will open for other groups for example; Them (w Van Morrison) sometimes would cover blues groups for instance, Chicago and James Brown. One night in August they had a show and the lead singer Jim wasn't there. They played a couple of songs without him and the co-owner of Whisky Phil Tanzini was furious. He was telling them to go get Morrison, who was found in his apartment on acid in his underwear. Jim was brought to stage just a little out of it and wanted to sing the finally song for the third song on their playlist. The song was called "The End" he improvised with the softening of his group and blurted out "Father, I wanna kill you", and then he shouted "Mother, I want to fuck you!" The band tried to cover it up but the audience went crazy over Jim Morrison's song lyric. The Doors where fired from the Whiskey but ended up with a contract with Elektra Records.

Non-muse event

The non-muse event I attended was on Sunday October 18, called the Community Dinner at the Azucar Latino Bistro. Where I had a formal dinner with the fraternity I might be pledging with Sigma Lambda Beta. I also had dinner with the alumni and other fraternities and sororities. The club was playing music and I dancing with some friends and having a blast. This went from 7:00 PM-9:00 PM until it hit 10:00 PM a live salsa band came to play. I was salsa dancing with some girlfriends, and I even taught some of them how to dance salsa.

Music Workshop #1

The Muse workshop I participated in was called First In My Family, most of the students who attended where freshmen consisting Latinos, Asians, and a couple of African Americans. The first part consisted watching a video called” Who We Are: First-Generation College Students Speak Out". In the video a diverse group of students that are first generation college students talk about there answer in not going to college. Also talked about how there transition of high school life to college life and how different it is. After the video some students shared some similarities they had with the other students in the video. Once everyone was done talking the instructor Veronica Mendoza gave here PowerPoint on the workshop. The PowerPoint had some helpful tips for example, time management, communication, the high school to college transition, and priorities wisely. She also talked about the resources in class made us fill out a schedule, with the purpose of making us see how we individual manage time. In my schedule I saw that I had a lot of time to study and have fun, but I never organized myself and most of it wouldn’t get done. The workshop ended with a survey evaluating the class and any comments for future workshops.

Study Tip #3

The third study tip that I suggest is to take notes while reading a chapter, section, or exercise in a book. I just started to take notes by typing them on a computer. For the class cultural geography and I am starting to get the chapter we are currently learning. Taking notes actually helps when someone is reading; because it is easier to understand if the person writes it in there own words. Also a good way to use as a test review sheet for example, when I finish my Chapter 5 notes on Language. It would be easier for me to just look through the notes then reading the chapter again.

Music List #3

1. Right Round- Flo Rida: I really hate this song because they got the chorus from the original song "You Spin Me Round," by Dead or Alive. The original song is better I hate music that copies other music.

2. Ice Ice Baby- Vanilla Ice: Is another stupid song that copies this time the rhythm of a song called " Under Pressure," by Queen featuring David Bowie. Personally I actually hate Vanilla Ice. He made a remake of the song but in a rock style, which was really stupid

3. In da Club- 50 Cent: I hate him and the song because he is not considered a rapper in my book. He doesn't have good lyrics and songs; I think he is a chicken when the rapper Game called him out, and he didn't back what was said about him.

4. Crank That (Soulja Boy): Some song that had no lyrical content and dance that made on sense. Also the song made him famous and especially the dance after awhile it died out.

5. Bump, Bump, Bump- B2K and P. Diddy: One I hate P. Diddy he thinks he is big but not really in the rap world he got some music form The Police in the song "I'll be missing you," dedicated to Biggy. I also hate the boy group B2K and especially Omarion he is lame and died after a few songs.

Talking about sex

The sexual pressures faced by freshmen are usually females to be honest; the upper classman are the ones putting pressure on the freshmen girls. Most of the freshmen males don't even face any sexual pressures. Rules for dating are set by each individual couple, but I believe their needs to be trust, communication, respect, and affection. I would never Google someone to see where they come from anything about them. I would like to get them know them in a personal level that will make also be trustless. Just be careful and be ready for the love life sometimes getting a broken heart.

Music List #2

1. Talk Dirty to me- Poison: Song produced during the Sunset Boulevard Glam rock scene, many bands where sex, drugs, and drinking. The song talks about how the singer Brett Michaels wants to have sexy with this girl that really isn't naught.

2. I Love College- Asher Roth: Sings about how college life is with smoking weed, drinking, having sex. Just a stereotypical way to talk about the college life.

3. Because I Got High- Afroman: A funny song where Afroman talk everything he could of done, but he got high instead. For example, he could of had sex with a girl, pass the test, gone to work, etc.

4. Head- Prince: Prince is singing to a girl about how he is going to give this girl sexual pleasure in her private part.

5.Pour Some Sugar on Me- Def Leppard: The lyrics talk about how "pour some sugar on me," in other words pour some secret juice on some one. This song was also produced during the 80's where Glam rock was a live.

My favorite song is Talk Dirty to Me by Poison honestly I do like the lyrics but it also has a amazing guitar solo.

Music Memories #1

I remember at a young age the music I listen to was influenced by my family which where my parents and older cousins. The influence that I got from my parents was Spanish music which where cumbias and rancheras. In the other hand my cousin’s taste of music was hip hop and rap, for example Nelly, Biggy, Hot Boyz, etc. As I grew I had pretty much the same taste in music during my Junior High School years not until summer of eighth grade year. I slowly transferred to the rebellious rock/rap music a famous group known as Slipknot and Korn. I would listen to them a lot it was a good combination of music rap which I grew with, and a new flavor which was rock. I never heard this type of aggression in my life different beat. Slowly entering High School I took a rock journey and discovered the vast variety of music. Shifted through phases from classic rock, to punk rock, and currently thrash metal. I have explored many types of rock in my high school years. Now as a college student I am still into all types of genres of rock, but I am in my thrash metal phase. Slowly discovering groups that are not form the U.S, such as Tankard form Germany, Attomica and Violator form Brazil, and Transmetal from Mexico. That is my whole life around music since I was eight years old to right now seventeen years old. I changed through out the years; but I will never forget the foundation of my music taste and will always keep in mind.

Study Tip number one

One study tip I suggest is that the place someone studies at should always be isolated. For example, in a very quiet room where there is no distraction such as cellphones, video games, and friends just to talk, endless they are there to help with the studying.Stay focus on the material that is the person is looking at and breaks through the studying. The breaks will really help a lot to stay awake .
